Every poker player knows about poker variance. The term that is used to describe the difference between how you thought your games would go when you began playing, and how they actually had gone by the time you finished.
In most cases, poker variance is talked about when players are losing, as few players care about variance when they are doing well.
If you have been having problems with poker variance, here are some suggestions to help you limit its impact on your fun.
Increase the number of hands you play -- The fewer hands you play the more poker variance will affect you. If you are finding variance is causing a severe impact on your fun, increase the number of hands you play.
That variance will then be spread out over more hands and have far less of an impact per hand.
Are you playing your best game? -- While poker variance has an impact on your game, so do your own poker skills.
If you feel you are not playing at your very best, stop blaming poker variance for the consequences.
Instead, either concentrate on your hands more so you can play your best game, or walk away from the table until you can.
Know when to stop -- If you are in a slump with poker variance and it is negatively affecting every game, now is not the time to stick with it.
Walk away from the table instead, start playing again when your luck may have turned, and you will often find poker variance will disappear as fast as it arrived.
